If you own and operate a barbecue restaurant, then there's a good chance many of your customers want to order sandwiches -- especially around lunchtime. Pulled pork and brisket sandwiches are delicious, of course, but if you want to really knock their socks off, then you need to think outside the box and create something more unique. Here are a couple of ideas for unique sandwiches you can serve at your barbecue sandwich shop.
1. The Meat Lover's Sandwich
Instead of letting your customers choose their meat, make a sandwich with a little bit of every meat you serve. Pulled pork, brisket, chicken, sausage, and even some bacon layered on a sandwich make for a really tasty experience. Add some barbecue sauce and perhaps a slice of cheese for good measure.
2. Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese
For people who want a little less meat, the pulled pork grilled cheese is a perfect choice. Make it on bread, like a grilled cheese sandwich. Stuff if with several slices of American or cheddar cheese, along with a little bit of pulled pork. Spread the outside with butter, and grill it on the flat top. You can add a cup of barbecue sauce to the side for dipping, but don't put the sauce directly inside the sandwich before grilling as it can make the bread soggy.
3. Brisket and Apple Slaw
Pulled pork and coleslaw sandwiches are classic, but this creation takes a walk on the wild side. Make your own apple coleslaw by grating a couple of apples and stirring in a few tablespoons of vinegar and sugar. Create sandwiches using a scoop of the coleslaw and a few slices of brisket. You can add some honey mustard or barbecue sauce, too -- or let the customers add their own spread.
4. Chicken and Peppers
This sandwich is a riff of the classic sausage, peppers, and onions. You pile pulled, seasoned chicken on a bun along with plenty of grilled peppers and onions. Make sure the peppers and onions have had plenty of time to cook slowly so that they are soft and caramelized. You can even serve this sandwich on a long sausage roll, like you would an actual sausage sandwich.
The sandwiches above are sure to attract a lot of attention for your restaurant because they're unique, yet still appealing to most palates. Add one or two of them to your menu today.
